How Much Does 3D Printing Cost in India in 2026? A Complete Breakdown

A transparent, line-by-line explanation of what 3D printing actually costs in India, material, machine time, setup and finishing, with real rupee figures, the levers that move the price, and how to cut a quote in half without hurting the part.

Ask five Indian 3D printing bureaus what a part costs and you'll get five different answers, three of which arrive on WhatsApp two days later. The pricing in this industry is opaque for no good reason, and that opacity costs you time and negotiating position.

So here's ours, in full. This article explains exactly how a 3D printing quote is built, what each component actually pays for, what the numbers look like in rupees, and, most usefully, which levers reduce the price and which ones just make the part worse.

The short answer

Most prototype and functional parts in India fall between ₹350 and ₹2,800. Expressed per gram, which is how most Indian shops think about it, that works out to roughly ₹10 to ₹20 per gram of finished part.

That range is wide because it has to be. A keychain and a drone frame are both "a 3D printed part" and they have almost nothing in common economically. But the range isn't arbitrary, and by the end of this article you'll be able to predict roughly where any given part lands.

One number worth stating up front: there's a ₹350 order minimum. Below that, the labour of quoting, slicing, scheduling, inspecting and packing a job costs more than the job earns. Almost every serious bureau in India has a minimum somewhere between ₹300 and ₹500 for the same reason.

What you're actually paying for

A 3D printing quote has four components. Understanding them is the whole game, because each one responds to different design decisions.

1. Material

This is the plastic that ends up in your part, plus the plastic that ends up in the bin as support structures and purge waste.

Raw filament in India costs roughly ₹1,500-3,000 per kg for PLA and ABS, ₹2,000-4,500 for PETG, and ₹3,000-6,000 for TPU and the engineering grades. Bureau pricing marks this up, typically three to four times, because the spool cost isn't the real cost. Filament absorbs moisture and has to be stored dried, partial spools get stranded, failed prints consume material that nobody pays for, and abrasive composites eat nozzles.

Our material rates run from ₹5.5 per cm³ for PLA up to ₹16 per cm³ for carbon-fiber nylon. At typical densities that's about ₹4.4 per gram for PLA and ₹14 per gram for PA-CF.

2. Machine time

The printer running for six hours is six hours it can't be doing something else, plus electricity, plus wear on the nozzle and motion system, plus the amortised cost of the machine itself, plus the operator's attention.

We charge ₹150 per hour on the P1S and ₹165 per hour on the K1 Max. The larger machine costs more per hour because it's a larger asset and it clears more work per hour.

Machine time is the component that surprises people most. A tall, thin, detailed part can easily cost more in machine time than in material, because the nozzle is travelling a long way to deposit very little plastic.

3. Setup

Every job needs a human: opening the file, checking wall thicknesses and overhangs, deciding orientation, tuning the slicing profile, preparing the plate, watching the first layer go down, and inspecting the result.

That's a ₹150-175 flat fee per job, and it's the single most important thing to understand about small-part pricing. It's charged once per job, not per part. Order one bracket and you pay the whole ₹150. Order fifty and you pay ₹3 each.

4. Finishing

Supports have to come off. Edges have to be deburred. Depending on the finish level you choose, surfaces may be sanded, primed or smoothed.

  • Draft: ₹20. 0.28 mm layers, minimal cleanup. For fit checks and mock-ups.
  • Standard: ₹60. 0.20 mm layers, supports removed, edges deburred.
  • Fine: ₹130. 0.12 mm layers, full support-witness cleanup on visible faces.
  • Showpiece: ₹300. 0.08 mm layers, sanded to 400 grit, primed and paint-ready.

Note that finish level also multiplies machine time, because finer layers mean more of them. Showpiece finish isn't just ₹280 more. It's ₹280 plus roughly 2.3× the machine time.

Worked examples

Abstractions are less useful than actual numbers, so here are four real configurations.

A palm-sized PLA bracket

32 cm³ solid volume, 25% infill, standard finish, one part.

At 25% infill the part is about 43% solid once you account for perimeters and top and bottom skins, so roughly 13.8 cm³ of plastic goes down, about 17 grams. Material is ₹76, machine time is around 0.5 hours at ₹150 giving ₹69, finishing is ₹60, and setup is ₹150.

That totals ₹355, just over the ₹350 minimum. About ₹20 per gram, the top of the range, entirely because the flat costs dominate a small part.

A hand-sized PETG housing

110 cm³, 25% infill, standard finish, one part.

Now 47 cm³ of plastic goes down, about 60 grams. Material ₹379, machine time 1.8 hours at ₹150 giving ₹272, finishing ₹60, setup ₹150.

₹861 total, about ₹14 per gram. The setup fee is now 17% of the bill rather than 42%.

Around ₹2,137 for a 272-gram part, about ₹7.90 per gram. This is roughly the floor. At this size, material and machine time are essentially the entire bill and the flat fees have vanished into the noise.

Twenty-five PETG parts

32 cm³ each, 25% infill, standard finish.

The 12% volume discount applies at 25 units and the ₹175 setup fee splits 25 ways to ₹7 per part. ₹5,561 for the batch: ₹222 per part, about ₹12.70 per gram, against ₹355 for a single one.

The pattern

Look at the per-gram figures: ₹21, ₹14, ₹12.70, ₹7.90. They fall as parts get bigger and batches get larger, and the reason is entirely the flat costs amortising.

Small parts are expensive per gram. This isn't a markup, it's arithmetic. Every bureau in India works this way, and any quote that doesn't behave like this is either loss-leading to win you or has hidden the flat costs somewhere you can't see them.

Seven ways to cut your quote

Some cost levers are real. Others make the part worse without saving much. Here are the ones worth pulling, roughly in order of effectiveness.

1. Batch your parts into one order. This is by far the biggest lever and almost nobody uses it properly. Three separate ₹350 orders cost ₹1,050. The same three parts in one order share the setup fee and might total ₹600. If you know you'll need something next month, order it now.

2. Order up to the next discount tier. Discounts start at 5 parts (7%), then 10 (12%), 25 (18%), 50 (24%) and 100+ (30%). If you need 23 parts, price 25. It's frequently cheaper in absolute terms, and you get two spares.

3. Drop the infill. Going from 50% to 20% on a non-structural part cuts material by roughly a third and machine time with it. Most parts don't need high infill; see our guide on infill density for where the real thresholds are.

4. Use draft finish for anything internal. If the part lives inside an enclosure or is a fit check, nobody will ever see the layer lines. Draft finish is free and prints 30% faster than standard.

5. Hollow it out in CAD. The estimator prices the solid volume of your model. If your part is a solid block with a decorative exterior, shelling it in CAD to a 2 mm wall before exporting can halve the price. This is more effective than reducing infill because it removes the volume entirely.

6. Skip the rush. Rush service is a 1.7× multiplier. Expedited is 1.3×. Standard is 1.0×. Planning one week ahead is the cheapest optimisation available, and it's free.

7. Don't over-specify the material. PA-CF costs three times what PETG does per cm³. It's worth every rupee for a load-bearing part that gets hot. It's money set on fire for an indoor desk organiser.

What does not save money

Asking for "the cheapest possible" without context. We'll quote PLA at draft finish and low infill, and if the part then fails in service you've paid twice. Tell us what the part must survive.

Splitting a large part to fit a smaller machine. More parts means more setup, more support, and a bonding operation. Print it on the K1 Max instead.

Shopping the quote to five bureaus. The pricing across serious Indian shops is more similar than you'd expect, because we all pay similar filament prices and similar electricity. The variance is mostly in whether anyone actually reviewed your file before printing it. A ₹200 saving is a poor trade against a part that fails because nobody checked the wall thickness.

What isn't in the quoted price

Two things, stated plainly:

  • GST is added at invoice.
  • Courier is added at invoice and depends on destination and weight.

Everything else, printing, support removal, deburring, the dimensional check and the design-for-additive review, is in the number you see.

Multi-colour parts cost more, and here's exactly why

If you use the AMS for a multi-colour or multi-material part, every filament change purges the hot end. That purged plastic is waste, and the swap takes time during which nothing is being built.

We price this as roughly +45% material and +35% machine time, applied automatically when you tick the multi-material option.

There's a design trick worth knowing: cost scales with the number of colour changes, not the number of colours. Four colours in four horizontal bands means three swaps total, which is cheap. The same four colours in a repeating pattern up the part means four swaps per layer, which is very expensive. Group your colours by height and the price collapses.

Why we publish all of this

Two reasons, and neither is altruism.

First, it saves everyone time. If you can predict the price before you contact us, you'll only contact us about jobs that make sense, and we'll spend our time printing rather than quoting.

Second, it's a competitive position. A bureau that won't tell you how it prices is usually charging what it thinks you'll pay. We'd rather compete on whether the part works.
