Contours a laser cutter can only fake in steps
Physical models a client can pick up and turn over, produced from your existing model files in days rather than weeks of hand-building. Strongest on contoured terrain and geometry a laser cutter cannot touch.
A physical model still closes work that a render can't. Clients understand mass, shadow and proportion in their hands in a way they don't on a screen.
But hand-building a model is days of skilled labour, and every design revision means rebuilding it. Most practices stop making them, and lose the advantage.
The other constraint is size. A building model at a usable scale is bigger than most printers, so it has to be sectioned intelligently rather than shrunk to uselessness.

Yes, by sectioning it. We split at sensible seams, often along a floor line or a facade joint where the break is least visible, add registration features so sections self-align, and bond them. The split is designed rather than improvised, and we'll show you where it will fall before printing.
At draft finish, yes, they're obvious. At fine finish (0.12 mm) they're subtle. At showpiece finish the part is sanded to 400 grit and primed, which removes them and gives you a paint-ready surface. Budget the finish level by whether the model is a working study or a client presentation.
Export to STL or 3MF and yes. Architectural models often need repair first. They're frequently non-manifold, with surfaces rather than solids and walls with no thickness. We check every file and will tell you what needs fixing, or fix it as part of the design service.
For a plain rectilinear block with flat faces, you probably should. A traditional model shop cutting acrylic or MDF will be cheaper and faster than we can print it, and we would rather tell you that than win the job and overcharge you. Printing earns its price somewhere else: contoured terrain, curved or perforated facades, fine repeated detail like louvres and balustrades, and a deadline that needs the model tomorrow rather than next week.
We can, but be careful who you ask. Turning 2D plans into a presentation model is a visualisation job, and dedicated studios and freelancers do it cheaper than an engineering bureau should. What we are genuinely good at is the step after that: taking the model you already have and making it printable. Sectioning, wall thickness, watertight geometry, orientation. That is where architectural prints usually fall over, and it's the part we'd rather be paid for.
